How to Keep Your Goals on Track

Many people want a fresh start every once in a while. This is why the excitement of the New Year is so invigorating for people. There is nothing more powerful than for you to believe that you can get a “do-over.” This year will be different…you tell yourself. The truth is that the sum of your life is directly related to the choices that you have made. Take a current snapshot of your life and it equals all the small choices and habits that you have made.

If you do not like your current snapshot of your life, then what do you do? First, you have to have a real awareness or as some call it a “reality check.” So many of us think that the rules do not apply to us and that we get a pass. We are always more critical of others and we have a hard time seeing the flaws in our own self. I used to have a sticky note that I placed on my computer monitor for several months and it simple said: “Excuses are lies that you tell yourself.” Are you living in those excuses? How could your life look 12 months from now if you started doing the right habits.

I recently opened an account over at GoalsonTrack.com because I wanted to see what the software was like. I have tried many goal programs, most of which in my opinion are too complicated. They try to be all things to all people and end up frustrating everyone. Goals on Track had a few simple tabs at the top that seemed to work together. The categories are:

Dashboard (you can see everything at one glance)
Goals
Tasks
Calendar
Habits
Journal
Reports

I really have found it easy to use and move things around. Probably the feature that I have enjoyed the most is the habits section. I am a big believer that habits is what accomplishes goals and not a long to do list. I don’t know about you but a long list of to do’s gets me overwhelmed quickly. I’d much rather hone in on the 3 or 4 habits that I need to do consistently to reach my goal. It can also be incredibly motivating to try not to “break the chain” when it comes to placing the check marks each day.

In the goals section you can also create a vision board. This can be inspiring when you feel down and need a bit of inspiration. You can even turn your pictures into a nice slideshow that makes a nice way to review your goals. Overall, I think this is a great goals tracking service if you are looking for ways to get your New Year’s resolutions to stick.
