6 Simple Steps to Setting Personal Development Goals
To grow as a person you are going to want to make sure you set personal development goals. Goals should be an integral part of accomplishing what you want to do, especially with regards to personal development. Without goals you don’t have something concrete to achieve.
You want to make sure you are always reaching for something, and setting goals will give you a good indicator of how you are progressing. Below are a few of my favorite personal development tips.
Build a team of supporters – A great way to make sure you are keeping on track with your personal goals is to build relations with people you can trust to help you along the way. When you build a team of supporters, try to get them to help you an individual area you plan to grow in.
You may have a couple of supporters help you work on your diet plans, while another set of supporters helps you on your exercise goals. When you have people helping you grow you ensure your success that much more in the long run.
Set goals in every area of life – You want to devise personal development plans in each area you want to grow in and set specific goals in each area. So you might want to plan on losing ten pounds by the end of the month while at the same time finishing that book you’re almost done with.
Set reasonable goals that you can achieve and feel accomplished with when they’re completed. You want to make sure you set shorter, piecemeal goals that help you towards reaching your overall long term goals.
Start with simple goals – As stated earlier if you set small goals they can help you achieve your bigger goals in the end. So if your overall goal is to lose fifty pounds by the end of the year and there are five months left in the year then setting yourself to lose ten pounds a month is a reasonable goal to achieve.
What’s great about small goals is that as you progress you can adjust your strategies along the way. Whether successful or unsuccessful, your short term goals will you get an idea of how you operate and what it’s going to take to reach your long term goals.
Report your progress to others – Once you have reliable people you can trust to help you along your way make sure you check in with them as you make your progress. If you start to slip on your routine or aren’t accomplishing as you feel you should be, then your team can help assist you in forming new strategies for success.
Reward any successes – When you accomplish your small goals it’s good to reward yourself, life is all about having as much fun as possible. So celebrate and have fun as you progress, after all, you only live once.
Adjust your goals when necessary – As you accomplish your short term goals revise your plans along the way. So if you reached your goal of losing ten pounds in a month then maybe you want to revise your plans to lose twelve the next month. You can adjust all of your plans as you see fit while you progress.
Remember that you can accomplish your goals as long as you set your mind to it. Make sure you start off with some easy and simple goals so that you start to realize you can make a change, then as you progress set your goals higher and higher to help you develop.
By creating a set of personal development goals to achieve and having a team of people to support you, you can go about developing as a person and changing who you are in a short period of time. Every day that you take steps towards growing as an individual is every day that you actually grow, so do what you feel is necessary to achieve your personal development goals and before you know it you’re a changed person.
